Origin & Production:
Double Cask 18 is matured in a precise balance of American and European oak, both seasoned with sherry in Jerez before filling. American oak contributes vanilla, citrus, and creamy sweetness; European oak adds dried fruit, ginger, and structure. Macallan’s exacting wood program—tight grain selection, seasoning, and long air-drying shapes a luxurious, naturally colored Speyside malt with depth and poise at 43% ABV.
Tasting Notes:
The nose is rich with raisin, toffee, orange oils, and ginger cake over polished oak. The palate layers sultanas, honeyed sponge, and dark chocolate with clove, nutmeg, and candied citrus, delivering a silken, full-bodied mouthfeel. Tannins are refined and supportive, steering sweetness toward composure. The finish is long and stately dried fruits, warming spice, and sweet oak glide on with impeccable balance.
Serving Suggestion:
Enjoy neat at room temperature to savor sherry-oak complexity. A drop or two of water can widen orange-ginger aromatics. Pair with high-cacao chocolate, walnut tart, or aged cheddar the whisky’s spice and fruit enrich hearty, nut-led flavors.
